I am Bonnie, a Soul Illuminator. I
I believe the soul is the truth of who you are and the place within us where true healing occurs. In my 30+ years working in healthcare as a Spiritual Care Provider, Pastoral Counselor and Certified Wholistic Healer in Integrative Medicine, I can attest to powerful transformations, new beginnings, and miracles in the mind, body and spirit when the soul is embodied with love and care. When you tend to the soul, the Light shines brighter in your whole being, your intuition, wisdom and discernment abilities are sharpened, you are guided by Spirit to live into being your soul purpose. You will experience an inner freedom, joy and happiness.
Life can throw us many challenges. At times we can feel overwhelmed, lost, or lacking direction and purpose. You may want to start a new career, get organized, nourish your body, mind and soul, heal from a broken heart or trauma, grow and take your life to the next level or just want to try something new and find passion again.
Your Sacred Power™ integrates counseling, coaching, spiritual direction and energy healing. I support women and men who are on a mission to connect with their soul, answer their call, live authentically, and step into their sacred power life. Are you willing to go deep and transition into a more soul satisfying, abundant and empowered life?
And that is where I come in…
From early childhood, I felt a longing to connect with a Source beyond me. I grew up in the Methodist and Catholic faiths. I didn't like attending services. I always found God in nature, in holy places, and my sacred space where I placed holy items and prayed. I did love to go early to church where I could lie down in the back pew while Mass was said in Latin (loved the mystical essence in and all around me). I would take a walk in nature and climb a tree, to feel the wind, and to reach up to the sky where it felt like Spirit surrounding me. Today I find the holy in the same way but I also love retreats and sacred, mystical liturgies. I love Franciscan spirituality, too. I am lucky to live in AZ where I participate or facilitate retreats at the Franciscan Renewal Center and experience beautiful liturgies and community,
Life brings challenges. I have experienced loss and grief, abandonment, emotional abuse, shame, loneliness, unworthiness, anger, confusion, fragmentation and traumas. I have also experienced love, understanding, forgiveness, hope and the joy of the Lord. . Most of us have one or several of these experiences in our lives. The biggest challenge included a divorce which led to a loss of support from family, friends and my church community. It left me feeling inferior, abandoned, alone, shamed and fearful.
Most of my life I lived up to the expectations of my parents, teachers and the church - being the "good girl". It was expected that I would minimally date and marry young with a career as a beautician or secretary (no college). I met those expectations at 19 years old. I had two beautiful children and stayed at home running my beauty business in the basement. I was a beautician at 16 and I loved listening to my clients. Everyone would tell me I should be a counselor. I would just laugh it off and say I don't think I am smart enough. I always wanted to go to college but it was not supported. My parents always said, "why do you want to do that...you don't need it...why would you want to be a counselor...that's for sick people?" My soul felt otherwise.
Fast forward, I was "allowed" to finally work outside of the home. I was hired to admit patients in a hospital. Again, patients and families would pour out their stories. My spirit, heart, soul and body awoke to a deeper and powerful life experience. There was a calling to connect more deeply with God. I finally attended a "Christ Renews His Parish Retreat" and my life changed forever. I experienced a profound experience of forgiveness and love. Years of pain and buried feelings flooded my being. My life was transformed. On the next retreat, I was called into leadership through a group discernment process. I thought "who am I"? "I don't have enough experience or education." I accepted the call to lead the next team.
On that next retreat I had a physical healing. I was preparing my talk for the morning and praying while in the chapel. I saw the ugly warts on my left hand. Why not ask for healing? I placed my right hand over the left and simply ask for them to heal. In the morning, they were gone. I was shocked. That morning I shared the healing miracle. Heal the Soul first and the mind, body, emotions, and spirit will follow.
I wish I could say the journey was easy but it was tough. “The truth shall make you free, but first it shall make you miserable” (Gestalt therapist Barry Stevens in 1977) . I would not have made it without the Love of God in my heart and soul. I hung onto the song, "Be Not Afraid" - I go before you. I went through a dark night of the soul.
Fast forward again...With a only a high school degree, a beautician’s license and no money from the divorce, I went from being an admitting officer in the hospital with a high school education to completing a BS in Psychology, BA in Religious Studies, MA in Pastoral Counseling. I returned to the same hospital where worked as an admitting officer to being a student in CPE for Chaplaincy and then an Assistant Director in Spiritual Care. I met a wonderful man in my CPE courses who become my best friend and husband of 30+ years. We set each other free by honoring God's plans first for our life (he is a minister, too), then encouraging each other to live out our soul's plan. We embody soul life and our soul essence.
Transformation is an ongoing process. All things are possible in and through God!
